For our return trip, we tooka taxi from Wuqing to Tianjin's main high-speed train station. |
The main difference in this station is that the signage is primarily in Chinese, there are very few English signs. The design of the station is also less luxurious than the Beijing station. |
For this part of the journey, first class was completely sold out. We did not want to wait for the next available first class, and took this opportunity to try 2nd class instead. |
Boarding again was orderly, even though the cabin was almost full. |
Second class was quite full also, and most of the passengers behave like they are very used to taking this train service. Notice that very few passengers have any carry-on luggage. |
Legroom was quite good even in second class, and the trip from Tianjin to Beijing is only about 30 minutes. |
The same Tibet spring water is offered to second class passengers. |
The seats have decent recline, although the trip is so short that most passengers did not bother with it. |
Our speed on this return trip was a little over 330 km/h |
Arrival into Beijing South station was very smooth. The trip was almost exactly 30 minutes. |
The sleek high-speed train looks very high tech. |
The arrival walk path is well designed, passenger traffic moves very smoothly. |
Many of the arriving passengers queue for the taxi. The taxi queue is also very well designed, both the taxis and the waiting passengers moved quickly. |
There was not really a wait to speak of, essentially the line was non-stop, and we walked right up to the taxi. |
The entire process from stepping off the train to getting into the taxi is probably 5-10 minutes. We had a very good impression of this high-speed train service. The terminals on both end (especially the Beijing South station) is well designed, the trains are clean, and rides extremely smooth, the service at the ticketing booth was good, and so was on the on-board service. The roadway leading into the stations and leaving the stations are well deisgned, and so are the taxi queue. The fare is extremely cheap, making this a great way to travel between Beijing and Tianjin. There appears to be plans to extend this service all the way to Shanghai, and it would be a very comfortable and convenient way to travel, and provide a significant competition to the domestic airline services. |

The airport is northeast of Beijing, and the station is in the southern of the city. I suggest taking a taxi, probably 150 yuan or so. | 2010-03-17 18:06:08 (GMT-6) | Patrick: | How far away is the train station from the airport? | 2010-02-07 15:12:26 (GMT-6) | Alex: | Also, both 1st and 2nd class was available from Beijing. First was sold out from Tianjin until the departure 30 minutes later, so we took 2nd instead. | 2010-02-07 14:39:39 (GMT-6) | Alex: | Helena, we bought our tickets at the Beijing South station on the same day as the trip. With a departure every 15-20 minutes, no problem at all. | 2010-02-07 13:38:10 (GMT-6) | Helena: | Hi, how can I purchase the Tianjin Beijing ticket inadvance? Or can I easily get the ticket for same day departure? | 2009-03-13 11:24:12 (GMT-6) | Patrick: | Thank you for the information, this is exactly what I needed for my upcoming trip to Beijing. |
